Meet Kathryn Batey

Kathryn Batey
Estate Planning Attorney
Kathryn Batey is a seasoned attorney with deep roots in the Southern Maryland legal community. She earned her J.D. from American University Washington College of Law and her B.A. from Sewanee: The University of the South. Before focusing on estate planning, Kathryn served as a Deputy District Public Defender overseeing criminal defense operations across Southern Maryland, where she tried hundreds of cases in Charles County courts.
Recognized as a Super Lawyers honoree in 2025, Kathryn has also served as an adjunct Legal Rhetoric and Writing professor at American University Washington College of Law. She is admitted to practice in both Maryland and Virginia, and is a member of the Charles County Bar Association and the Prince George’s County Bar Association. She was also appointed by Governor Wes Moore to the Trial Courts Judicial Nominating Commission for Charles County.
As a parent of two children, Kathryn understands firsthand why estate planning matters for families. She brings the same meticulous attention to detail and client-first approach that defined her courtroom career to every estate plan she creates, ensuring each client feels confident their loved ones are protected.
